Andre Cushing

Cushing is a County Commissioner for Penobscot County, Maine. 

 

He is and has previously been an active member in many civic organizations, as well as public service at the local, state, and, now county levels of government.

 

Andre believes in giving back to the community in which he lives. He has been a member and board member of many community organizations; Jaycees, Rotary and Kiwanis, Hampden Business Association, Citizens for Quality Education and has served as President of the EMMC Children’s Miracle Network and Black Bear United Soccer boards.

 

He has been elected as a town councilor in two communities, including Hampden, where he served as deputy mayor. At the state level he has almost ten years service in the Maine Legislature (4 years in the House of Representatives and almost six in the Senate), where he was elected to the position of Assistant Majority Leader while in both bodies. 

 

His community involvement includes time on charter review committees, land use and comprehensive planning boards and three national boards serving elected legislators. His legislative experience includes chairing; blue ribbon commissions on affordable housing, and regulatory takings, as well as a taskforce to address Maine’s Opioid crisis. He has over 40 years experience as a small business owner, and currently is a Realtor. He and his wife Gwen have 3 adult children and four grandchildren.
